“La Rabia de Adentro” is a poem about rage, about justified, analytical rage against the capitalist systems that attempt against our collective humanity.
Honduras 5/11/2020
Y en las bananeras
Abandonadas
El agua hasta las ventanas
Pasitos en el techo
Empezamos de cero
Ya no queda nada
Toallas con lodo
Las mesas flotando
Después de todo
En las calles de Lima
Huele a tortilla
Nadie con la panza vacía
La solidaridad
Nos determina
Las ratas allá en sus instituciones de mentira
Ni avisaron, siguen con la misma transa
Entre los murmullos se escucha..
“Se perdió todo, menos la esperanza..”
“Honduras, 5/11/2020” is about hurricane Eta and the incomprehensible loss and despair experienced by thousands of Hondurans who lost their homes or were stuck on the ceilings of their homes as the floodwaters ravaged everything in their path. My hometown and family were one of the affected thousands. I see the cycles that keep happening, climate disasters catalyzed by the big elite corporations who destroy our natural resources, decimate the already fragile livelihoods of families in the global south who in turn, seeking a better life or fleeing poverty, migrate north where they are dehumanized and criminalized for profit.

Artist Statement:
My poems are deeply personal, they dive into the realities of our systems, including our immigration system and US interventionism as well as imperialism which have shaped our cruel, colonialist immigration policies and views. I write when I feel frustrated, I write when I feel deep sorrow when I miss Honduras when I fall into a deep pit of anger over how our communities are dehumanized.
